Grounds for Divorce Due to Harm in the UAE
Either spouse may request a divorce if the other spouse's conduct causes physical, emotional, or financial harm that makes continuing the marriage unreasonable or impossible.
Common grounds include physical or psychological abuse, abandonment or unjustified refusal of marital relations, failure to provide financial support despite the ability to do so, adultery that destroys trust between the spouses, and addiction or any harmful behavior that seriously affects the stability of the family.
To obtain a divorce, the harm must be proven before the court through legally accepted evidence, such as witness testimony, documents, or medical reports. The court will generally attempt reconciliation before issuing a divorce judgment.
